New Arrival: Derek Fisher, of, Houston Astros

Derek Fisher was drafted by the Astros in 2014 in the First Round out of the University of Virginia.

He hit very well in his 2014 debut (.386 OBP, .806 OPS between Rookie and Low-A Ball), and is keeping it up in 2015 with A-Ball Quad Cities–.400 OBP, .930 OPS.  He is showing some nice pop this season too, with 5 HR and 12 XBH through his first 150 at-bats.  Last season he only hit 2 HR over 176 at-bats, so the extra power is nice.

I am a big fan of steady hitting, good defense, fundamentally sound college hitters–you know they are going to make it to the bigs, but the fun part is just seeing how long and what they do when they get there.  The Indians have a bunch of these in guys like Bradley Zimmer and Tyler Nanquin, and I think Fisher is just as good as those guys.

I bought the card above a couple weeks ago since I was pretty sure he was not going to sign anything through the mail–being a high draft pick I am sure he gets bugged enough for autographs.  But on Friday this came in the mail:

So yea, that is pretty exciting and is easily one of the cooler autographs that I have gotten this season.  I was a big fan before, but now I am even bigger.
