Cody Anderson was drafted in the 14th Round (428th) of the 2011 draft by the Cleveland Indians.
When he was drafted out of Feather River CC he was a project, but projected to be a middle of the rotation starter. Coming in 2012 he has an excellent fastball, but his secondary pitches–a change, curve and cutter–are still are work in progress. I have read some reports that his cutter has turned into a plus pitch, though.
His 2013 was, by any measure, a huge success. While he was a little old for A ball, he simply dominated: 2.34 ERA, 1.10 WHIP with 105 hits, 112 K’s and 31 walks in 123 IP. He would get promoted to Akron late in the season and start three games. He did not do so well–16 hits allowed in 12 innings for a 1.97 WHIP–but that can be forgiven.
He would be selected as the Carolina League pitcher of the week (5/20), mid-season All-Star, Post season All-Star as well as the leagues pitcher of the Year.
