New Arrival: Tom Murphy, c, Rockies

Murphy was one of my favorite catching prospects this season, and I wrote getting him off a long time ago. But I checked the mail yesterday and there was an autograph waiting. Only took 5 months…so I am pretty happy about getting this one.

He was a 3rd round pick by the Rockies in 2012. He hit really well as a 21 year old in Short Season Ball in 2012, and lit up Low-A in 2013. With Asheville he was hitting .288 with a .385 OBP and .975 OPS when he was promoted way up to AA Tulsa to end the season. There, in 20 games, he hit .290 with a .338 OBP and .831 OPS. His mix of average, power and good defensive projection make him one of the better catching prospects in the game. Baseball America rated him the Rockies #14 prospect coming into 2013, and I imagine he will he easily in the top 10 next season.
