Card: 2006 Bowman Heritage RC
I don’t have anything against the Phillies. For some reason I always think of them as the National League version of the Rangers–a team that beats you with power pitchers and power hitters. Not a lot finesse, just power everything.
Not sure why I think that. Its probably all the old pictures I saw growing up of all the old Phillies in that white and red uniform. They all seemed like they were white, barrel chested beer drinkers who never ran out a ground ball. And Darren Daulton.
Got this card in Spring Training of Hamels rookie year. I think that the 2006 Bowman Heritage set is still one of the nicer sets every made, and many look really good autographed. I remember this was one of my best mail days ever, getting almost a dozen autographs in the mail that day.
Hamels is a heck of a pitcher, and fits the Phillies prototype that I have in my head. He is a workhorse, pitching near or over 200 innings per season, and generally striking out near on batter per inning. He is a three time All-Star, and pretty much the most consistent pitcher in the Phillies rotation.
