From the Collection: Ryan Lavarnway, c, Red Sox

IMG_0061

Ryan Lavarnway was drafted in the 6th round by the Red Sox in the 2008 draft. He was drafted pretty low, but was a great college hitter and was the Div I batting leader while at Yale.

Lavarnway has put up good numbers in the minors, whacking 75 HR from 2009-2011, getting on base and showing a good average. He had been bouncing between AAA and the majors since 2011, never really sticking on the Boston 25 man roster. He got 77 at bats with Boston in 2013, but his .758 OPS was not all that great. Still, he is only 25…so he has plenty of time to cement a spot with the Red Sox in 2014.
