From the Collection: Anthony Rizzo, 1B, Cubs

IMG_0049

Got this autograph TTM back in 2010.

Rizzo was drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 draft by the Red Sox.  With the Red Sox he was a well thought of prospect, ranking the organizations #17, #22 and #8 prospect from 2007-2009.  He was an above average first baseman, with solid line drive power.

Rizzo was traded in 2010 to the Cubs.

With the Red Sox he was rated their #2 prospect in 2010 and #1 prospect in 2011.  He struck out a lot, but his power had become a real tool.

Rizzo first full season in the majors was 2013, and he put up good number. His 23 HR, 40 doubles and 80 RBI all led the Cubs.  But while his power was nice, he hit just .233 with a .742 OPS.  His OPS+ of 101 shows that he is just about league average…so if he could just work on his contact skills he could be an All-Star.
