Garrett Cleavinger was the player that I was hoping to get most this weekend, so I was really happy when I was able to snag him before a game on Friday. In 2013 he was really excellent, going 9-0 with a 1.24 ERA (best on the team) and 57 K’s in 44 IP. He pitched both in the rotation and out of the pen, and held hitters to a .137 AVG–the lowest of any pitcher in school history. After the season was named a freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger and the NCBWA (2nd Team).
He played in the Cape Cod league, though did not do too well–0-2, 6.56 ERA. He struck out 22 guys in 12.2 IP, and that is not bad at all.
He was named third-team preseason Louisville Slugger All-American by Collegiate Baseball to open the season.
