Jesse Chavez was drafted by the Rangers in the 42nd Round of the 2002 Draft. He was a prospect for a while, rating the Rangers #31 in 2005 and Pirates #24 in 2006. He lost his prospect status mostly because the Rangers converted him into a pen arm in 2005.
He has not really had a ton of success in the majors. His 2009 season was pretty good, but it was not until last season that he was able to capture that kind of success again with the A’s. Still, he should have no problem opening the season in the A’s bullpen, and has the talent to stay there all season.
