Don Kelly was drafted in the 8th Round of the 2001 Draft by the Tigers. He was the Tigers #19 prospect in 2003, and then again in 2005. He was always projected to be a utility guy due to his lack of power, and that seems to have been his career path. The Tigers must really like him, since he actually left the organization as a Free Agent in 2006, and after short stints with the Pirates and D-Backs he signed back with the Tigers in 2009.
Last season he got 251 at bats in, carrying a .309 OBP and 76 OPS+. He did have 6 HR and a pretty great 27/28 BB/K ratio.
This spring he is really tearing it up, hitting .324 with a .422 OBP and 1.044 OPS in 45 at bats. Obviously that does not mean much since they are ST stats, but still, very nice. He should back up all the OF positions, while also playing a little at each infield position as well.
While he wont light the world on fire with his bat, hit mix of hitting skills and versitility make him the kind of player that every championship team should have.
I actually got this autograph last season, but it was not until today that I figured out who signed this scorecard…thanks to SCN guys for the help.
