New Arrival: John Axford, closer, Cleveland Indians

I think that Chris Perez, the former Indians closer, got a bad rap last season. Not saying that he did a great job as a closer, or that he was a great pitcher, but people really seemed to dislike the guy more than he deserved. I don’t think that he said anything that we were all no thinking (in regards to home attendance), so I don’t see the problem. He did blow some pretty big games, notably one against the Red Sox early in the season that stuck with me for a while. But that is the life of a closer, you win most, lose some.

Still, he was a rock last season during a couple of stretches, and I hope he does well in LA.

John Axford is our new closer. I was not thrilled with the signing at first, but that was mostly because he stuck it to my fantasy team a couple season ago.  But water under the bridge.

I was happily surprised that he signed this card…majors league guys and SS cards don’t always mix.
