I feel like TJ House has been in the organization forever. When he was called up this season I was really hoping that he would pitch well enough to get a September call up. I have always really liked him–I remember listening to a game that he pitching in Lake County and thinking that he was pretty impressive. Baseball America last considered him a Top 30 prospect in 2010, but I think for a high school draft pick (16th round, 2008) that might have been a little soon to give up that status. He had a rough 2011, but tweaked some things and has been excellent ever since.
This season he has been fantastic, first in AAA and now in the majors. His first start in Baltimore did not go well, and I think that people were not expecting much when he was on the mound on his next start in Chicago…but he pitched a gem. Then in Boston he did it again. He is proving to be more than a stopgap until Zack McCallister comes back.
He is another player on this trip that was a really nice guy. He walked out of the stadium a couple times and was mobbed by kids to sign stuff, and he signed for everyone. He was talkative, took pictures and was generally a class act. Its always great knowing that you have guys this nice on the team.
