Grant Heyman was drafted by Arizona in the 8th Round of the 2014 draft out of the College of Southern Nevada. In college he put up great numbers, batting .377 with 8 home runs, 24 doubles, 43 RBI and a .686 slugging percentage in 2014. He was also named Player of the Year in the Scenic West Conference. Neat fact: the Scenic West used wooden, instead of composite, bats. I thought all colleges use composite, so that is kind of cool.
Assigned to Low A Hillsboro he is putting up great numbers–.756 OPS with 2 HR and 18 RBI though 31 games. The best part is that he is doing this at only 20 years old, a year and a half younger than most of the guys in the league. He is a very nice prospect, and with his plus power it should be fun to see how fast he moves through the system.
