New Arrival: Ryan Merrit, sp, Carolina Mudcats

There are a lot of players having nice seasons in the Indians organization, but Merrit has been one of the more pleasant surprises.  Drafted in the 16th round of the 2011 Draft from McLennan Community College in Texas, Merrit has slowly been moving up the organization ladder.  He is having his finest season in 2014, doubling his highest season win totals while carrying a sub one WHIP.  He is doing this not with power, but with excellent command and forcing guys into ground-ball outs.  There is nothing about his numbers that says he can’t keep doing this as he moves to Akron and Columbus.  I think he is a very exciting prospect, and it will be great to see if he can keep it up.
