From the Collection: Aaron Guiel, RF/1b, Kansas City Royals

Aaron Guiel was draft by the Angels in the 21st Round of the 1992 draft out of Kwantien College.  He has a very long career, playing both in the minors, majors and a couple foreign leagues.  He had more then a few banner seasons in the minors, with 2000 being probably his best when he hit 35 HR with a 1.065 OPS.  He wold have an OPS of more than 1.000 three times, and hit at least 10 HR in 9 seasons, and cracking at least 30 homers twice.  His career minor league OBP is .396.

Guiel would spend spend parts of five seasons in the majors, though he was never really able to stick.  He did well when given the chance, and even hit 15 HR in 2003 with the Royals.

I snapped this picture while I was stationed in Omaha, and is the only autograph of his that I have.

Like many of the players that I saw in the PCL from 2001-2002, its really tough to get his autograph.  I have written to Guiel more than a few times with no successes, and I am about to try again here in a week or so.  I would really like to get him:  the older I get the more I appreciate guys who had long careers but who might not be remembered as much as dudes who spent more time in the big leagues.  Guiel was the punch in many a lineup over the years, and he should be proud of all that he accomplished in baseball.
