2001 Fleer Autographics Alex Escobar

Alex Escobar, of, Washington Nationals

I know Alex Escobar best as the centerpiece of the 2001 Roberto A
lomar trade. The rebuilding Indians traded Alomar, Danny Peoples and Mike Bacsik to the Mets for Top Prospect Alex Escobar, Matt Lawton, Jerrod Riggan, Billy Traber and Earl Snyder. It was a big trade. Lawton worked out well enough, but the main cog was Escobar. He was the Mets best prospects (rating #1 in the organization in 1998 and 2000), and the Indians thought they were getting their center fielder of the future. But things did not pan out. Lots of strikeouts hindered his offense (and one of the reasons the Mets traded him) and injuries sapped his speed…and he never got more than 160 at bats in the majors.

2005 Donruss Studio Cliff Lee

Cliff Lee, sp, Philadelphia Phillies

I really liked the Donruss Studio cards when they came out, and I bought a couple packs for requests.  I remember only getting a couple back, with Ciff Lee and David Wright being the big two.  I thought that this one came out particularly good.

2000 Fleet Autographics Todd Helton

Todd Helton, 1b, Colorado Rockies

There is not much I can say about Todd Helton.  This is the only autograph of his that I own, and one day I plan to get another one on a sweet spot card.  I know that people always want to caveat his career numbers on the face that he played in Colorado…and that’s fair…but they are still impressive.

I always liked Fleet autographics, with the only problem that some are signed in black in not blue.  For some reason I see many that are faded, though I am beginning to suspect its more about people storage technique then the marker that is used…thought the black does not help.
