I got this autograph in 2007, while David Price was pitching at Vanderbilt. That season
he would go 11-1 with 194 K and a 0.95 WHIP in 133.1 innings. He would be drafted #1
overall later that year by the Rays. It was a good pick. Price would only spend one
partial season in the minors, going 12-1 with a 1.131 WHIP, and in a brief call up to the
major league club carry a 0.929 WHIP in 14 innings. Since then he has one 20 win season,
one 19 win season, four All-Star selections, and a Cy Young Award (plus he finished
second on Cy Young voting once). He has been every bit as good as the Rays might
Price, at age 28, is still one of the best starters in the game as could be any staffs ace.
He is with the Tigers, and is set to break the all time arbitration record if he
does not sign an extension with the club. Detroit would be smart to pick him up–he is
a very rare talent and goodness knows that can’t trust Justin Verlander this season.
