Bradley Zimmer was taken in the 1st Round of the 2014 draft by the Indians. A very polished college bat out of San Francisco, he performed very well in his first season of pro ball, carrying a .400 OBP and .892 OPS between short season Mahoning Valley and Low-A Lake County. There is no doubt that he is a good hitter, the only real concern is how much power he will have, and if that power will play at the position he mans. You want a guy with his defensive tools at a corner outfield spot, but since he does not have a ton of power he might be better manning center, but then his defense takes a hit. When the Indians drafted him, like Tyler Nanquin, you can’t help but worry that you are wasting another 1st round pick on a Trevor Crowe tweener type. I don’t think they did.
I am very excited about the future the Tribe might have. Bradley Zimmer, Tyler Naquin and Clint Frazier could be the OF starting three by late 2016…which is not a bad place to be. Its nice to see the Indians have some real prospects in the system.
