At its peak in 1998-1999, this was probably one of the two or three most sought after post-war cards in the hobby, right up there with the ’52 Mantle and ’86 Fleer Jordan.
Previously it could be had for less than $30, but in 1998 it was common to see this card moving for $300–which was nuts for a mid-80’s card even back then. Nothing touched this cards popularity. Obviously the card has fallen on hard times, though a PSA 10 could probably still get you a couple hundred dollars. Raw copies like this one? I have seen them move for a $1.
Fun fact about this card: the picture for this issue was taken in old Cleveland stadium.
