Art Mahan played one season in the Majors–1940 with the Phillies. He got in 544 at bats that season, and hit .244 with a .297 OBP and .615 OPS. He did not have any power, but he was fast and led the team in stolen bases that season. He was 27 at this point, and due to the war would never see another at bat in the majors.
He was on OK hitter in the minors though, with a .284 AVG over 7 seasons. Even in the minors a decent average was all he could do, since he did not get on base at a good clip and had almost no power.
But he is noteworthy for his post playing career: he coached the Villanova baseball team from 1950 to 1972.
