New Arrivals: Adam Jones, cf, Baltimore Orioles

I always forget what a great player Adam Jones is. I am not sure why–Baltimore is not a small market team–but every time I see his stats I am like “Man, why don’t we talk about him more!”.

Jones was drafted by the Mariners in the 1st Round of the 2003 draft. He was traded in 2008 to Baltimore, and has been hitting the heck out of the ball ever since. He has been selected to four All-Star Teams, won a Silver Slugger in 2013, and has four Gold Glove awards under his belt. He was gotten Top 15 MVP votes three times, and has a career OPS+ of 110. He strikes out a ton–he only walked 19 times in 2014 but had 133 K’s in 644 at bats–but you can live with that considering he has 30 HR power and Gold Glove level defense. Baseball Reference, when comparing him to batters with similar stats through their age 28 season, had Dave Winfield, Andrew Dawson and Vernon Wells at the top of the list. Not bad company at all.
