Ever since the Yoenis Céspedes entered the league I have been a really big fan of Cuban players. I know that a lot of them had to jump through so dangerous hoops to get to play here, and so its hard not to root for them. Next to Céspedes my favorite Cuban in the game in Abreu. I read a lot about him while teams were bidding, and I had a suspicion that he was going to be worth every penny that some team was about to pay him…and man, I was spot on. He is right in my Top 10 of favorite players in the majors right now.
Last season he was just awesome. His 169 OPS+ led the league, and he was an All-Star, Gold Glove winner and Silver Slugger. And he was also a real MVP candidate, and might have been able to win had the White Sox been contenders.
A couple months ago I bough this card:
At the time I really though I was good on Abreu autographs. This was a nice piece….the autograph might not pop as much as I would like, but its a beautiful card and overall I am really happy with it. But man, these National Treasure Die Cut cards…they are just amazing. They took the design of the 2000 Crown Royals cards…changed up the colors and just knocked it out of the park. I liked that Pacific set…and I love my Sweet Spot cards…and this is like the best mix of both. Plus, I have heard that Abreu has pretty much shut it down for everyone other than little kids when it comes to signing in person…so I figured what the hell. Plus the card was still cheaper then I would have paid through a private signing, and will hold better value.
