New Arrival: John Jaha, 1b, Brewers/Athletics (1992-2001)

John Jaha Signed Index Card

There are a couple former Oakland players that I am always on the lookout for, but can almost never find nice pieces of. Geronimo Berroa, Tony Phillips and John Jaha lead the pack. This Jaha will have to do for now.

Jaha was an awesome minor league slugger.  Six seasons of .400 or higher OBP…and he did with some legit pop.  He had some very campaigns with the Brewers, but I will always remember him for when he signed with the A’s.  It was a classic Billy Beane signing, since Jaha was an OBP/power hitter with an injury history who could be gotten cheap.  And even though Jaha was not expected to break camp in 1999 with the team he ended up hitting 35 HR, knocking in 111 runs and carrying a .414 OBP and 152 OPS+.  He was an All-Star and got Top 20 MVP votes.

He would not have another season like that, and was out of baseball by 2002…but man, that 1999 season capped a very nice career.
