Calvin Pickering, if, Kansas City Royals

1999 UD SP Calvin Pickering

1999 UD SP Calvin Pickering

Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 35th round of the 1995, Pickering had a fun little career.  He never was able to stick in the majors, but the guys was an impressive minor league player, with both power and discipline.  Highlights include 1998, when he hit 31 HR with a .434 OBP, and in 2004 he would whack 35 HR with a .451 OBP.  He was never able to find success in the majors though, which I think is weird.  I would think with his old player skills he would have had at least one decent season.

All told, he would retire with a .297 AVG, .409 OBP and .951 OPS line in the minors, with 225 HR.  Despite never really getting to be a regular major league player, he had a career to be proud of.

Off topic:  Like Kit Pellow, he is a player that I have written to a dozen times and never been able to get.  Bummer.
