I have been a fan of Anderson for years, and it has been very satisfying to see him have success in the majors this season.
Cody Anderson was drafted in the 14th Round back in 2011 out of Feather River (Calif.) JC. In 2012 he was rated the organizations #30 prospect, and by the end of 2013 was the #5. He has a rough 2014 season in the minors, struggling at AA with a 4-11 record and 1.480 WHIP. But he bounced back nicely in 2015, blew though AA and AAA (to a 1.051 WHIP over 71 innings), and was called up to the big league club.
He has a very nice start to his major league career. Over his first four starts, a total of 30.1 innings, he allowed 17 hits, striking out 11 and only allowing 3 walks. Guys hit .165 off him, and he carried a 0.89 ERA during that run. He was lights out. But then he hit some bumps, and his next five starts (22 IP) he was hit for a 9.00 ERA, with guys hitting .330 off him. He ended up going on the DL with a shoulder strain, which hopefully accounted for some of his struggles.
So far in September he has started two games, and in that span has only allowed 5 hits in 13 innings, and dropped his ERA from 4.30 to 3.72.
I would of been happy if he pitched like a 5th starter, and right now that he pretty much where he is slotted due to all our SP talent…but you get the feeling that he will be playing a big role in the Indians future, and it wont be at the back of the rotation.
Anderson was very nice in Cleveland, and signed for all of us the day that I was down getting autographs. He and Urshela were the two guys that I was hoping to get the most, so it was nice to see him so friendly to fans–especially the ones that are stuck living in Hawaii and have to wait a year between graphing opportunities.
