Mark Teixeira, 1b, New York Yankees

I really liked Mark Teixeira when he first came up, mostly because the 2003 Texas Rangers were one of my favorite teams.  I thought that Tex, Hank Blalock, Michael Young and Kevin Mench were a very exciting core of rookies who would be the cornerstone of many contending Ranger teams.  Of that group, Tex was the most highly touted:  he was drafted 5th overall in 2001 out of Georgia Tech and was BA’s #10 prospect in the game following the 2001 season.  He would destroy the minors in 2002, and would become the #1 prospect in the game.  By 2003 he was in the Show to stay.

Teixeira has had a really nice career, but it feels like it is not quite as good as people thought it was going to be.  He has had his fair share of injuries, and he well known to be a second-half player, both of which are a little frustrating and put a damper on his overall numbers. Plus playing on the Yankees means he was always going to be second fiddle to some very big stars–Jeter and A-Rod being the biggest.
