Devin Mesoraco was the 15th overall pick in 2007, and made his major league debut with the Reds in 2011. He was not doing too much with the bat until 2014, when he broke out with a 25 HR season and his first All-Star selection. His numbers were really good across the board–he hit with power, carried a .273 AVG and .359 OPS. Sure he struck out a lot (41 walks, 103 K’s in 384 at bats), but you had to be excited about his progress and the possibility for a massive age 27 season in 2015.
In 2015 he got all of 45 at-bats before going down with a hip injury that would require surgery.
