Drafted by the Pirates in the 6th round of the 2015 draft out of Akron. He sometimes had a rough time of it in college, notably as a freshman starter, going 0-7 with a 7.25. But one bad season did not keep him down, and he improved every year in college to eventually become a legit prospect, projected to go before the 8th round.

For Brubaker you had to kind of look past the college numbers, since what MLB teams liked about him was the projection–with a great fastball and good slider, coupled with his size, teams projected him to be a successful starter in pro ball. And it seems to be working out: he has a 1.38 WHIP this season in A-ball, with 57 K’s in 50 innings.

I love the city of Akron, and have been a fan of him since his last season in school there, so he might be one of my favorite pitchers in the minors. I am rooting for him.
