Chris Paddock was drafted in the 8th round of the 2015 draft by the Marlins, and would have a fantastic rookie campaign in the GCL: 45 IP, 37 hits, 39K with a 4-3 record and 0.97 WHIP. He would come into 2016 as one of the organizations top 20 prospects.
He was fantastic in Low-A this season (2-0, 0.39 WHIP/0.95 ERA in 28.1 innings), but was traded to the Padres in late June.
Assigned to Low-A Fort Wayne, he continues to wreck hitters (1.00 WHIP/0.64 ERA in 14 innings). My favorite stat is that in those 14 innings he has struck out 23 and only walked 3…and on the season he has 71 K’s and 5 walks.
Unfortunately, Paddock is out for the season: tommy John surgery to repair a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament. He’s expected to miss 14 to 18 months.
He will easily crack the Padres Top 10 prospect list by the end of the season, despite the injury. I think he has a bright future, and this is just a bump in the road.
