For a guy who was drafted in the 31st Round (1996, by the Rangers), Hafner had a pretty amazing career. Well, I guess it would be a pretty great career for anyone…but especially for someone drafted that late.
My favorite memory of him is right here. I was at work watching this game. I remember hanging up on my boss since I started screaming. It was a good night.
Hafner’s 2006 was probably his real highlight. .308/.439/.659 with 42 HR. That would be good for a 181 OPS+. It says something about the state of baseball back then that those numbers would get him #8 in MVP voting.
Got this autograph while he acting as a special assistant to the Lake County Captains. There were only three of us, and he signed. That said, he never really seems…happy. Which is nuts. He made a ton of money in his career, and I think he is loved around Cleveland. He is Pronk! I know the whole baseball celebrity thing probably gets old…but he cant get bugged that bad. Eh, whatever. He signed. Made me happy.
