Craig Philip Molldrem was drafted twice. First time in 2000, in the 43rd round, by the Giants. He was in high school, declined, and went to the University of Minnesota. He was drafted again in 2004, this time in the 8th round, by the Marlins. This time he signed.
He was a starter in college, and over four NCAA seasons went 16-13 with a 4.37 ERA. He did not strike out a ton (153 in 237 IP), and carried a 1.41 WHIP. He had two good pitches (sinker, slider), and had good control.
Early in his pro career he was a starter, and found a little bit of success.
He had a nice season in Greensboro in 2005. He went 6-1 with a 2.83 ERA over 63.2 IP. He was selected to the SAL mid-season All-Star team. But once promoted to High-A late in the season he hit a wall, and he was shifted to the pen.
He did not have a lot of success pitching out of then pen, and would retire in 2008. He made it as far as AAA in 2007.
Molldrem currently is a Senior Partner and Financial Advisor with North Star Resource Group.
