From the Field: Ralph Garza, rhp, Houston Astros

Ralph Garza was drafted out of Oklahoma in the 26th round of the 2015 draft by the Astros.

In college he was a very solid pen arm. He had a low-90’s fastball and decent curveball, which was more than enough to keep NCAA hitter off balance.

In 2016 he went back to the pen, and in Low-A had some nice numbers: 5-4, 2.33 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP in 58 IP.  He was promoted to High-A late in the season, and hit a bump: 6.75 ERA, 21 hits allowed in 17.1 IP, good for a 1.79 WHIP.  The jump from Low- to High-A is not easy, so I think its best to see how he performs next season.
