From the Field: Codie Paiva, p, Loyola Marymount Baseball

So I spend Tuesday in Manoa trying to get Corey Seagers autograph. I didn’t get it that day, and the entire trip was almost a bust…but I did get one very cool autograph: Codie Paiva.

Codie Paiva is from Oahu–Pearl City–and is a 2015 graduate of Kamehameha School. He was a solid two way player here in Hawaii.. In his last season out here he was rated the best player in the entire state. He decided to play college baseball at Loyola Marymount. Bummer for Hawaii–UH could use the pitching–but great for the Lions.

I never got him while he played here in Hawaii…so this was a really nice surprise.

Paiva has a fantastic freshman year with LMU. Over 23 innings he gave up 17 hits, striking out 19 and only walking three. He spent the season pitching out of the pen, except for one start against the Unversity of Hawaii in late April. Paiva would strike out seven and gave up two runs in six innings of work, earning his first victory in Division 1 ball.

I am sure he will play even a bigger role on the Lions pitching staff in 2017. I expect him to be a weekend starter before to long, and with his arm he should start to get the attention of Major League scouts.
