T.J. Friedl played at the University of Nevada last season, and went .401/.494/.563. He had plus/plus speed and enough pop to keep pitchers honest. He was not drafted, and went to go play with Team USA, hitting .290/.362/.452.
I guess most teams did not know he was eligible to get drafted, but the Reds found a loophole and grabbed him as a undrafted free agent.
He hit the ground running as a pro, hitting .347/.423/.545 with 3 HR in the Pioneer League. He impressed scouts, ranking in the Top 20 prospects in the league, and MiLB.com selected him as an organizational All-Star.
