Zach Eflin was drafted in the supplemental first round of the 2012 draft our of Hagerty HS in Florida.
From 2012 to 2014 he ranked as one of the Padres Top 16 prospects, projected to be a mid-rotation workhorse type.
In 2014 he was part of the Matt Kemp trade, and was sent to the Dodgers…who then turned around and sent him to the Phillies in the Jimmy Rollins trade.
He has a solid 2015, both in the Phillies organization and pitching for Team USA, and entered 2016 the Phillies #9 prospect.
2016 was…fun. He went 5-2 with a 2.90 ERA/0.88 WHIP in AAA, pitching in 69 innings and allowing 49 hits and striking out 55.
He got the call to the majors, and would go 3-5 wih a 5.54 ERA / 1.33 WHIP.
This season is already looking bright. He was shut down in August and had two surgeries to repair the patellar tendon in both knees. More than five months later, Eflin reported to spring training feeling better than ever.
He is only 22, so things are looking good.
