New Arrival: Jesmuel Valentin, 2b, Philadelphia Phillies

Jesmuel Valentin was selected to the Eastern League All-Star team this season, and I was lucky enough to see him play in person since the ASG was held in Akron. I was not able to get his autograph that day, but I was able to get his dad: Jose Valentin.

Valentin is a former first round pick back in 2012, by the Dodgers. He was a good prospect, rating #14 in 2012 and #22 in 2013 in the organization. In 2014 he was traded to the Phillies, and would end the 2014 season the Phillies #8 prospect.

He is a solid player. He makes good contact, has a little pop, and his defense up the middle is very good.

2016 was a good year. He hit .276/.346/.399 with 5 HR in AA, and then get the bump to AAA, where he would slash .248/.325/.381 with 4 HR. Not eye popping numbers, but between his solid bat and good defense, the Phlllies added him to their 40-man roster. He is still a very good prospect, and I imagine that he will get called up at some point in 2017, probably in a bench role.
