Joe Hudson was a 2012 6th round pick of the Reds out of Notre Dame.
When he was drafted he was considered one of the best defensive catchers in the draft. So good, in fact, that he was still considered a Top 10-round talent despite his weak offensive game.
He has been a slow mover through the Reds system, repeating both Low and High-A ball, and only this season cracked AA.
He does have some accolades though: he was a mid-season All-Star in the FSL in 2015, and a MiLB.com organizational All-Star in 2014.
He does have a little pop in his bat, and can take a walk. But his contact skills are lacking, and he has a career .316/.337/.653 line in the minors. But his glove is still top notch, and it will be what keeps him employed for the foreseeable future.
He has been invited to major league camp the past two seasons, and I think it is very possible that he could get called up at some point in 2018 in a defensive role.
