I got this autograph back in 2004 when he was with the Lowell Spinners. That season he would go 4-4 with a 1.77 EA/0.943 WHIP over 76 innings. It was a fantastic campaign, and put him right onto the prospect map–he would enter the 2005 season as the Red Sox #5 prospect. I remember getting this kind of late in the season, and it was clear what a great pitcher he was by then, so it was a very cool autograph to get.
In late 2005 he was traded to the Marlins, part of the Hanley Ramirez deal.
He would make the majors in in 2009, and by 2010 he had cemented himself in the Florida rotation.
He has been a solid pitcher throughout his career, generally being better than league average, though not quite a star. He has had four seasons of at least 10 wins. His best season was 2013 with the Tigers, when he went 14-8 with a 2.57 ERA and 162 ERA+.
