Got this autograph a couple weeks ago via a friend in Arizona…a nice surprise.
When it comes to the autographs that I have gotten while living here in Hawaii, Brian Mundell was one of the first that I was truly excited to get.
When Cal Poly came through Honolulu back in 2014, they were ranked #4 in the nation and were packed with exciting pro prospects. Unfortunately for me, the weekend was also packed with rain. But I was able to work around the poor weather, and get all the autographs I wanted–highlights by Mundell.
Mudell would be one of the Mustangs top hitters that season, going .279/.378/.409 with 4 HR. in 2015 he would hit much the same (.282/.377/.447 with 5 HR), and was selected in the 7th round of the draft by the Rockies.
Mudell has continued to hit as a pro.
In 2015 in short season A-ball he would hit .275/.355/.410 with 4 HR…numbers much in line with what he put up in college.
Coming into 2016 nobody doubted that Mundell could hit, but the question was if his bat had enough pop to play at first. Well, he answered that with a 16 HR, 59 double campaign and a solid slash of .313/.383/.505.
2017 should be another test, since he will more than likley see some AA-ball, and with that some more advanced pitching. But I don’t see any reason that he can’t keep up what he is doing.
