From the Field: Cody Carroll, rhp, New York Yankees

  • Cody Carroll was drafted by the Yankees in the 22nd round (663rd overall) of the 2015 draft. He spend much of his college career hurt, but when he did pitch scouts noticed. That said, his injury history meant that he was almost certainly going to start his pro career off as a pen arm.
  • Last season in low-A he was fantastic: 91.1 IP, 89 hits with 90 K to only 41 walks. He would go 3-3 with 4 saves. He spent most of the time pitching out of the pen, but did start six games.
  • This season he started off in high-A, and thus far looks like he will be used out of the pen. Not on the prospect radar yet, but that could change with a good campaign in high-A.
